What is a Microneedling Treatment?

Microneedling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound healing processes, leading to increased collagen and elastin production, which can improve the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and overall skin texture. It’s often used to treat various skin concerns, including acne scars, stretch marks, and signs of aging.

What Happens During This Treatment?

You will be numbed for 15 to 20 minutes with a topical cream. Then the treatment will begin with an application of Hyaluronic Acid Serum and then the microneedling pen that will feel like a vibration on the face and is not painful. You can decide if you want no downtime to have the needles at a lower depth, or if you are working on deep lines, or scarring, there may be some redness after the treatment and possibly the next day. The actual needling takes about 10-15 minutes and then a mask that is specifically for mesotherapy will be applied to cool down the redness.

What Happens After the Treatment?

You will need to avoid sun for 48 hours and no makeup. Nothing else should be applied the next day other than Aquafor. You should avoid hottubs, saunas and workouts with sweating as to avoid the possibility of bacteria on your skin. Microneedling causes the tiny punctures that need the 48 hours to close and heal.

When Will I See Results?

Depending on your skin type and sensitivity level, you may or may not be red even right after the treatment, but it may take until the next day to have a glowing effect from the treatment. Within days after, you will notice smaller pores, and more even tone and texture.

Because your body is doing the healing, the collagen and elastic production is increased and will be working for up to 90 days after the treatment, so you need to be patient to see the final results.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Everyone is different, but, in most cases, 4 treatments are needed for aging skin or acne scarring. The next year, you may want a “touch up” with 1 or 2 more to keep the benefits going.

Summary Microneedling is a great alternative to Botox and/or Fillers. It is a natural process to reverse signs of aging and correct acne and other scarring. It is a low to no downtime treatment that is natural because it uses the body’s healing response. It is also used with Botox, but must be 2 weeks after Botox injection. The benefits of using both are that less Botox may be needed and it will avoid the “frozen” look, as well as if you need stop Botox during pregnancy, etc. there will not be a sudden change when the Botox wears out due to the fact, the microneedling treatment results are not going to wear off.
